La Nonna is a classic Italian restaurant located on the quiet street of Professor Walksman, right near the famous Estadio Bernabeu. Founded in 1999 by owners Luigi and Nella, the restaurant has been serving homemade pasta and pizza of the highest caliber for nearly the past 25 years.

La Nonna has mastered the craft of pasta making. The gnocchi is soft and delicate, the lasagna is thick, yet gente to cut through, and the raviolis are never doughy, and always cooked to perfection. With each pasta, there’s a sauce to accompany, such as pesto, gorgonzola or tomato. Undoubtedly, the flavors of these sauces are solid, however it’s the freshness of the pasta that makes the dish. The pasta is always of good quality, and there’s a large variety of toppings to choose from. Furthermore, there are several delicious antipasto, such as the burrata, or roast beef, which are satisfactory.

The waiters are always serious, and are quick to take the order of the customers. Food always arrives fairly soon after being ordered, and drinks are readily available. It’s easy to get the attention of the service, as the restaurant is very small, and one is easily noticed. However, the owner/chef is always in house, and occasionally when taking orders he’s a bit moody. Aside from that, no complaints.

Very intimate, romantic and cozy ambiance, making this restaurant optimal for date night, or a family dinner. The seats are comfortable, the dining room is humble yet elegant, and there is a cozy fireplace to keep guests warm. Almost reminiscent of a log cabin in the middle of the woods with a fireplace…if you know what I mean…

The price is reasonable for Italian food, and the quantity of pasta given is decent. One definitely needs to order appetizers and an entree to feel “full” after the meal however. Tiramisu is also a must. Definitely the best tiramisu in Madrid, and I’d argue it’s difficult to find one of better taste even in Italy.
